This Hellfire
Written in a burst of two days and recorded within a fortnight, This Hellfire marked Martin Purvis’s return after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus. Featuring violin by Patrick Lawrence of Detroit Tourist Board, it is a dark, wind-battered tale filmed among the ruins of Old Gang Smelt Mill, in North Yorkshire.
Built around an alternate C# tuning and a restless, haunted refrain, the song finds Purvis returning to the darker corners of his familiar sound.
